Cupping Notes : Blackberry, Brown Sugar & Lemon
We’re proud to bring you a rare and exceptional coffee from the mountains of Yemen—where coffee was first cultivated over a thousand years ago. Produced at an impressive altitude of 2,200 meters in the Mikhlaf Al-Rub’ area, this coffee is a celebration of Yemen’s rich coffee heritage.
Although famed for its quality, coffee production in Al-Hayma is modest in scale. Some villages' total harvest is no more than 15 tons of coffee cherries: yielding only a precious 1.5 tons of coffee beans per year. During the harvest period, producers begin by selectively handpicking only the reddest cherries. Across Yemen, a single farmer may pass a tree several times during each harvest, making sure cherries are picked only when they are at their most ripe. The freshly picked cherries are taken to raised beds to dry under direct sunlight before being rested, hulled and sorted.
Our Yemeni coffee offers a complex flavour profile with notes of blackberry, a delightful sugary sweetness and a hint of lemon - balanced with a wine like acidity and a smooth finish. We have found these beans taste even better when well rested after roasting and we love them as a pour over brew!
